Chisel App Privacy Policy

This policy covers the Chisel iOS app only, published by Known by One, LLC. The The Face Report website has its own privacy policy, which applies when you use the website, including the free face scan.

The short version: everything the app creates stays on your phone. There is no account, no server, no analytics, and no advertising.

1. What the app stores, and where

Chisel stores your progress photos, your daily task completions, your plan settings (focus areas, face shape, time budget, reminder times), and your monthly check-in notes. All of it is stored only on your device, inside the app's private container.

• Photos are written with iOS file protection, so they are encrypted with your device passcode, and they are excluded from iCloud and iTunes backups.
• Photos are never uploaded, synced, shared, or analysed by us.
• The app does not detect faces, extract landmarks, or compute any scores from your photos. It shows them back to you and can render them into a time-lapse video on your device.

2. Face data

2.1 What face data the app handles

The only face data Chisel handles is (a) the progress photos you take with the front camera or choose from your photo library, which show your face, and (b) if you choose to import a result from The Face Report, your face shape and the scores for your focus areas. The app does not use Face ID, the TrueDepth camera, ARKit face tracking, or any face detection, landmark, measurement, or recognition technology. It creates no face geometry, face template, or biometric identifier, and it does not analyse or score your photos. The outline on the camera screen is a fixed guide, and the faint overlay is simply your previous photo.

2.2 How it is used

Photos are used only to show them back to you: in your photo history, as the overlay that helps you line up today's photo, in the side-by-side comparison, and, if you choose, in a time-lapse video rendered on your device. Your face shape is used to pick your haircut, beard, and eyewear guides, and your scores are shown on the Plan tab (you can hide them in Settings). Face data is never used for authentication, identification, advertising, marketing, profiling, or training any model.

2.3 Where it is stored

Only on your device. Photos are saved as image files in the app's private storage with iOS Complete file protection, so they are encrypted and unreadable while your phone is locked, and they are excluded from iCloud and computer backups. Your face shape and scores are saved in the app's local database on the device; like the app's other settings, that database is part of your own iCloud or computer device backup if you have device backups turned on. We have no server, and we cannot access your device or your backups. Chisel cannot read your photo library. The photo picker is run by iOS and gives the app only the photo you choose. If you tap Save in the share sheet, iOS asks once whether Chisel may add to your library.

2.4 Sharing and disclosure

We never receive your face data, and we do not share, sell, or disclose it to any third party. The app has no account, no analytics, and no advertising, and it makes no network request containing your photos, face shape, or scores. A result from The Face Report reaches the app only when you paste its code or tap its link; the app sends nothing back to the website. A photo or video leaves your device only if you export it yourself: the time-lapse Share button opens the standard iOS share sheet, and you choose where it goes. Settings > Export my photos opens the same share sheet with copies of your photos, for example to move them to a new phone.

2.5 How long it is kept

Your face data stays on your device until you delete it. We keep no copy anywhere, so nothing is retained on our side. On the free plan, photos older than seven days are locked but not deleted. A time-lapse you render and photo copies you export are written to the app's temporary folder with Complete file protection. They are deleted when you replace or delete a photo, when you delete all data, and the next time the app opens, and iOS may also clear that folder on its own.

2.6 How to delete it

Open any photo in your photo history, including photos locked on the free plan, and tap Delete to remove it. Settings > Delete all my data removes every photo (including locked ones), your face shape, your scores, and all other records immediately. Deleting the app removes everything it stored.

3. What the app does not collect

We do not collect your name, email, contacts, location, device identifiers, or usage analytics. The app contains no third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs. Our App Store privacy label is "Data Not Collected", and this policy is what makes that true.

4. Age confirmation

The app is for adults 18 and over. During setup you enter your date of birth to confirm this. The date is checked once on your device and discarded; only the yes/no result is kept.

5. Importing a result from The Face Report

You can optionally bring a result from The Face Report into the app by pasting a code or opening a link from your result page. The code contains only your chosen focus areas, your face shape, and their scores. It contains no photo, no identifier, and no email. The transfer happens only when you paste the code or tap the link yourself, and the app makes no network request to do it.

6. Camera and photo library

The app asks for camera access to take your daily photo, and uses the camera only on that screen. You can pick a photo from your library instead: the iOS photo picker needs no permission and gives the app only the photo you choose. Either way, the photo is saved only into the app's private storage on your device. If you tap Save in the share sheet, for example to save your time-lapse, iOS asks once whether Chisel may add to your photo library.

7. Notifications

If you allow reminders, the app schedules local notifications on your device for your morning tasks and, optionally, an evening photo reminder. These are generated on the device; no notification service or server is involved.

8. Subscriptions

Chisel Pro is an auto-renewing subscription sold through Apple. Apple processes the payment and holds your billing details; we never see them. The app checks your subscription status with Apple's StoreKit on your device. Manage or cancel in your Apple ID settings.

9. Links to other apps and websites

Some tasks link to the The Face Report website (for a rescan) or to our separate face-yoga app. Those are governed by their own policies once you leave Chisel. Opening a link is always your action.

10. Deleting your data

Settings > Delete all my data removes every photo and record from the app immediately. Deleting the app from your phone does the same. Because nothing is stored anywhere else, there is nothing for us to delete on your behalf, and no request to make.

11. Children

The app is not directed at anyone under 18 and does not knowingly accept users under that age.

12. Changes

If the app ever starts collecting data, for example if we add analytics, this page and the App Store privacy label will change first, and the app will ask before anything is sent.
