Allow the camera and this page is a mirror: full screen, zoom up to 3x, a white light for makeup, a freeze button and a saved photo. Works on a phone, a tablet or a laptop webcam. Nothing is uploaded or recorded.
Starting your camera…
Step 1
Allow the camera
Your browser asks once. The picture appears in a second or two, reflected like an ordinary mirror.
Step 2
Go full screen
One tap fills the whole screen with the mirror. Flip and exit controls stay in the corner; Escape or the corner button brings the page back.
Step 3
Zoom for detail
Zoom cycles through 1x, 1.5x, 2x and 3x about the centre of the frame, so an eye, a tooth or a stray hair fills the screen.
Step 4
Turn on the light
Light surrounds the picture with a white border and background, which uses the screen as a soft ring light for makeup or a close shave.
Step 5
Freeze and save
Freeze holds the frame so you can look at it. Save photo downloads the frame as a PNG, the way it looks on screen, to your device only.
A mirror shows you reflected: your right hand appears on the right of the picture. That is the view this page opens with, because it is the one your hands expect when you do your makeup or fix your hair. The True view button removes the reflection and shows the frame the way a rear camera, a video call and every other person sees you. The two are the same face with the sides swapped, and the unreflected one usually looks slightly off, purely because you have seen it far less. The true mirror page is built around that comparison: both views side by side, each half of your face doubled on your own midline, and the study behind why the unfamiliar version feels wrong.
A browser mirror is a crop of the camera frame, so it is only as sharp as the camera: a phone gives a crisp picture at 3x, a laptop webcam is best at 1x and 1.5x with the light on. If what you want to check is measured rather than seen, the face symmetry test and the attractiveness test read 478 landmarks from one photo, in the browser as well.
No. The camera stream is drawn straight onto a canvas in your browser and never leaves your device. There is no upload button on this page, nothing is stored on a server, and Save photo writes a PNG to your own device. Close the tab and the camera stops. The only thing that leaves is an anonymous count of which buttons get used.
Because that is what a mirror does, and it is what you expect when you raise your right hand and the picture raises the hand on the right. The front camera on a phone shows the same reflected preview. If you want the unreflected picture, the way other people and a rear camera see you, tap True view.
Tap True view. It shows the same frame without the reflection. It can look slightly wrong at first, because you know your reflected face far better than your unreflected one. The true mirror page explains that effect and adds a side-by-side comparison and a doubled-halves view.
Tap Full screen. Safari on iPhone has no full-screen mode for a web page, so the mirror fills the browser window instead and the controls move to the corner. Adding the page to your Home Screen opens it without the browser bars, which gives the whole screen to the mirror.
Yes. Zoom steps through 1x, 1.5x, 2x and 3x, cropping about the centre of the frame. The picture is a crop of the camera frame, so at 3x a laptop webcam looks soft; a phone camera keeps more detail. Freeze the frame first if you want to study something closely.
Most laptop webcams are small sensors that need light in front of you, not behind you. Turn on Light here, face a window or a lamp, and wipe the lens. A blurry picture on a phone usually means the lens is dirty or the phone is too close to focus; hold it a little further away.
Yes. Save photo downloads the current frame as a PNG at the size shown on screen, reflected if you are in the mirror view and unreflected in the true view. For a printed strip with a countdown and several shots, use the online photo booth.
Yes, in any current browser with a camera: Safari and Chrome on iPhone and iPad, Chrome and Samsung Internet on Android, and Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari on a laptop or desktop with a webcam. The page needs a secure connection, which this site always has, and camera permission for the browser.
First the permission: the browser's address bar shows a camera icon where you can allow it. Second, another app or tab may be holding the camera; close video calls and other camera pages. Third, on a laptop, a privacy shutter or a keyboard shortcut can switch the webcam off. Reload the page after changing any of these.
